Sighting in Évreux, February 16, 1980

Eure, Normandie, France

Sighting on February 16, 1980 in Évreux (Eure, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

Between 1:00 and 1:30 a.m., three military personnel on duty saw an unidentified flying object above the village. It gave off a very bright orange light. The three witnesses did not agree on its shape.

The object stayed motionless for about a minute, then climbed rapidly and moved in a series of stages, or jumps. Its light gradually faded until it was no more than a single point.

The investigation found no other accounts from civilians in the area. Since no radar watch was kept over the weekend, the presence of an aircraft could be neither confirmed nor ruled out. GEIPAN classed the case as C, meaning there was not enough data to draw a conclusion.
