Sighting in Évreux, November 21, 2018

What happened
At around 8 p.m., a driver travelling on the RN154 saw a round shape above a field through the right-hand window. It carried coloured points of light, red and green. The object rose slowly for a few seconds, then moved away in a straight line, in the opposite direction to the one the driver was heading. The driver lost sight of it in the right-hand mirror. The sky was hazy. No other witness account was collected.
The investigation rated the case as having average strangeness and average consistency: there was only one witness, the location and date were imprecise, and there was no photograph. The description could suggest a misidentification of either an aircraft or a ground vehicle, given the colour of the flashing lights and how close the object was to the ground. The sighting also took place in the middle of the sugar beet harvest, and apparently near the Evreux air base. However, the time that passed before the account was given made it impossible to ask the authorities for radar records. GEIPAN classified the case as C, owing to a lack of reliable information.
