Sighting in Eybens, June 22, 2013

Isère, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France

Sighting on June 22, 2013 in Eybens (Isère, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably the International Space Station (ISS) (class B).

What happened

Two witnesses noticed a luminous phenomenon after 10:30 p.m. It crossed the sky in a straight line and made no sound, and they were surprised by it. It looked like a very bright point moving slowly across the sky.

The investigation compared this description with a pass of the International Space Station (ISS). According to the Calsky website, the ISS crossed the sky from 10:45 to 10:52 p.m., moving from west to south. Two discrepancies remain, however. The witness gave the time as "10:30, maybe later", which does not match the simulated time exactly. The witness also put the maximum elevation at 90°, whereas the simulation gives 17.5°. GEIPAN considers that the simulation parameters may be imprecise.

The case is classified B: it was probably a pass of the ISS, with some remaining uncertainty.
