Sighting in Fontenay-près-Vézelay, July 26, 2012

Yonne, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, France

Sighting on July 26, 2012 in Fontenay-près-Vézelay (Yonne, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty: it was the International Space Station (ISS) (class A).

What happened

Shortly after five in the morning, a witness noticed a white point of light crossing the sky slowly from the southwest toward the northeast. It made no sound as it passed.

GEIPAN investigators compared the sighting with a sky chart from the Heavens-above website, which shows the track of the International Space Station (ISS) at that time. The witness had seen the ISS pass overhead. The case was therefore classified A, meaning it was identified.
