Sighting in Monéteau, May 13, 2009

Yonne, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, France

Sighting on May 13, 2009 in Monéteau (Yonne, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

The witness filed their account in March 2011, almost two years after the event. At around 2 a.m., they were looking at the sky in front of their home when an object passed by very quickly and without making any sound. It was dark orange and V-shaped. No flashing light was visible. The sighting lasted five to six seconds, after which the object quickly vanished.

The witness had a similar experience in September, when they saw two objects of the same kind flying together, again in silence.

GEIPAN considered the case relatively strange. However, the observation was very brief, the very late report limited the details available, and no independent witness confirmed it. Its consistency was therefore very low and no conclusion could be drawn. The case was classified C because of the lack of independent testimony and of any cross-checking.
