Bouches-du-Rhône, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France

What happened

At around 10 p.m., a motorist noticed three flashing red lights about 100 m above the ground. At first, the witness could not make out any particular shape that the lights might belong to. They saw the lights drift slowly from east to west, and heard a faint humming sound.

During the sighting, one of the lights came down closer to the ground and seemed to scan it with what looked like a searchlight. The other two stayed in place. The witness was then able to see a dome lit in several different colors.

The local press reported other accounts of the same phenomenon. GEIPAN classified the case as D: the phenomenon, described as the movement of three flashing red lights, remained unexplained.
