Sighting in Fort-Mahon-Plage, July 4, 2010

Somme, Hauts-de-France, France

Sighting on July 4, 2010 in Fort-Mahon-Plage (Somme, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

A witness filmed a beach with their mobile phone from a vehicle parked facing the sea. At the time, they noticed nothing unusual. The next day, while watching the footage, they found details that had gone unnoticed during filming. They did not want the video to be put online.

The video and photos sent to the GEIPAN contain many ordinary elements. The quality is poor, and part of the footage was shot through the car windshield, facing the sun, which produced numerous reflections and artefacts. A dark, very blurry spot could be explained by an insect close to the lens. Several afterburner trails from aircraft are also visible.

The witness does not describe one specific phenomenon to analyse; instead they put forward several phenomena and trajectories that they assumed after the fact. None of these observations shows any strangeness. The GEIPAN classified the case as C because the data cannot be used.
