Sighting in France, October 13, 1978

Sighting on October 13, 1978, exact location not given (France). GEIPAN considers the phenomenon probably identified (class B).

What happened

At around 8 p.m., two witnesses, one in Troyes and the other in Reims, saw an elongated object cross the sky. They also noticed coloured lights. One of the two witnesses made a similar sighting five days later, between 7 and 8 p.m.

The investigation found nothing abnormal. The satellite detection centre in the Aube recorded no unusual phenomenon. The technical department of the Barberey-Saint-Sulpice aerodrome told the gendarmerie that no unusual sighting had been reported on those days, and no other testimony was collected.

The GEIPAN classified the case as B: the witnesses probably saw an aircraft passing.
