Sighting in Romilly-sur-Seine, July 15, 2015

Aube, Grand Est, France

Sighting on July 15, 2015 in Romilly-sur-Seine (Aube, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At around 11:45 pm, a witness who was stargazing watched a satellite go by. Shortly afterwards, they were surprised to notice a flying object with a triangular shape, made up of three faint orange circles, one at each corner. The sky was clear. The phenomenon crossed the sky very quickly and vanished toward the northwest. The sighting lasted about 5 seconds.

GEIPAN received only one account, with no photo. It judged the testimony to be of moderate consistency, as it lacked precision and came from a single person. The sighting was considered of low strangeness, since the object's appearance and behavior were ultimately ordinary. The case was provisionally classed as C: the phenomenon could not be identified as things stood, and the lack of information did not allow a firm opinion. GEIPAN was waiting for the witness to provide details on the angular measurements, the object's movement and certain observing conditions.
