Sighting in Guerting, February 11, 2015

Moselle, Grand Est, France

Sighting on February 11, 2015 in Guerting (Moselle, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty: it was the International Space Station (ISS) (class A).

What happened

A witness and their son saw a white point of light in the sky at around 6:40 p.m. It was moving faster than an airliner. It passed over the roof of the building, then gradually faded until it disappeared.

According to GEIPAN, this account is typical of the sighting of a large satellite. The Calsky data confirm that the International Space Station (ISS) passed at exactly that time, in line with the sketch drawn by the witness. The sketch contains an error in the azimuth at the start of the observation, caused by a misunderstanding when filling in the form. The case was classified A: the object was the ISS.
