Sighting in Hautmont, July 4, 2009

Nord, Hauts-de-France, France

Sighting on July 4, 2009 in Hautmont (Nord, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

Between about 12:30 and 12:43 a.m., a witness standing in a car park noticed a luminous phenomenon above the neighbouring building. The sighting lasted two to three minutes. The sky was clear, and the witness described whitish balls of fire.

The phenomenon moved silently from south to north, then stopped, changed direction and quickly disappeared toward the east. The witness filmed the scene with their mobile phone.

The videos turned out to be unusable, and so were the two still images the witness extracted from them. GEIPAN received no other account of the phenomenon. Because of this lack of information, the case was classified C (insufficient data).
