What happened
On 23 April 2009, the mayor of a small municipality handed over to the gendarmerie a CD and a letter, both addressed to the town hall. The CD held two photographs taken on 27 July 2008 by someone on holiday in the area. One of them showed a black spot in the landscape. No resident of the municipality had reported anything unusual that day.
The person who took the photographs came to the gendarmerie on 11 August 2009. They explained that they had taken the pictures at around 10:45 during their holiday, and had later found a sphere and a disc in them. They stated that they had noticed nothing unusual while taking the photos.
GEIPAN classified the case as C, insufficient data. The witness had seen nothing directly when the pictures were taken, and there was no other testimony or information, so any investigation of the phenomenon was difficult, if not impossible.
