Sighting in Honfleur, August 1998

Calvados, Normandie, France

Sighting in August 1998 in Honfleur (Calvados, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

In 2013, the witness reported an observation from August 1998, at around 1:30 in the morning: a flash of light lasting one or two seconds at most. The flash showed every colour and spread across the whole sky. The witness's sister also saw it, but only one account was collected.

GEIPAN could not make use of this testimony, since it was given fifteen years after the event and the exact day of the observation was not specified. The phenomenon described is not strange in itself, as it is reminiscent of the flash produced by a meteoroid entering the atmosphere. However, the investigation could not be taken any further in that direction. GEIPAN therefore classified the case as C, for lack of sufficient information.
