Sighting in Jeumont, September 26, 1975

Nord, Hauts-de-France, France

Sighting on September 26, 1975 in Jeumont (Nord, France). GEIPAN considers the phenomenon probably identified (class B).

What happened

Following a newspaper article, the gendarmerie opened an inquiry into the sighting of a large orange phenomenon, seen far off in the sky by several witnesses in the area of a few neighbouring communes. The investigators located only two people, and their accounts contradicted each other. One of the witnesses had taken photographs and sent them to the press, but they turned out to be negatives.

GEIPAN classified the case as B. The witnesses most likely saw something connected with the Charleroi metalworking region in Belgium, which lay in the direction they had pointed out. The sighting was therefore an orange glow in the sky toward Belgium.
