Sighting in La Londe, November 13, 1960

Seine-Maritime, Normandie, France

Sighting on November 13, 1960 in La Londe (Seine-Maritime, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a hoax (class B).

What happened

A few days before the main events, two people had noticed green, orange and red glimmers around 8:30 pm, apparently coming from an object moving slowly across the sky.

On the night of the observation, at about 2:45 am, one of the two witnesses was puzzled by a green glow shining into their bedroom. Their partner, woken up, also saw green, orange and red lights flashing, then went back to sleep. The witness stepped out onto the doorstep and saw, roughly 150 metres away, a circular craft several metres across landing on a disused railway line near the house. The craft was silent, rested on a tripod and gave off orange and green lights. After about twenty minutes it took off without a sound and vanished toward the south-west, alternately emitting green lights. The witness later told a reporter from a regional newspaper what they had seen.

The gendarmerie found no trace at the site. Several residents were questioned, including two SNCF employees on duty that night at the level crossings in the area, who had noticed nothing unusual. The main witness, well known to the authorities, had their credibility strongly challenged by everyone interviewed and by local authority representatives. No other testimony supported the account. GEIPAN classified the case as B: probably a hoax.
