Sighting in La Motte-Servolex, March 18, 1979

Savoie, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France

Sighting on March 18, 1979 in La Motte-Servolex (Savoie, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At around 9:45 p.m., a witness was standing in their yard when a luminous phenomenon caught their attention. For about five seconds, they saw two orange spheres appear and vanish among the clouds. The spheres travelled at very high speed from west to south-east. Held at arm's length, each looked about 15 cm across, and they were roughly 50 cm apart. The witness heard no sound.

The gendarmerie put out a call for witnesses, but no one else reported the phenomenon. Because of the lack of information, GEIPAN classified the case as C (insufficient data): the observation of two objects moving at very high speed.
