Sighting in La Roche-sur-Yon, July 2, 2009

Vendée, Pays de la Loire, France

Sighting on July 2, 2009 in La Roche-sur-Yon (Vendée, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

A witness and their spouse lived in a house in the countryside. For several years they had noticed light phenomena near their home, some occasional and some recurring: luminous balls of varying size that moved about, sometimes far away and sometimes close.

Experts were sent to meet the witnesses. Their findings showed that the luminous balls seen every evening were stars or planets. The brightest was Jupiter, which in late October 2011 rose in the east at about 7:30 pm.

As for the other sightings, which the witness placed above their field, nothing made it possible to confirm or refute what was reported. The GEIPAN therefore gave class A to the recurring observations (Jupiter and stars) and class C to the others. Overall, the case is classified C, owing to insufficient data.
