Sighting in La Roche-sur-Yon, September 21, 2009

Vendée, Pays de la Loire, France

Sighting on September 21, 2009 in La Roche-sur-Yon (Vendée, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

A motorist saw a yellow point of light move across the sky on two occasions on 21 September 2009. The questionnaire describing the sighting did not reach GEIPAN until February 2011. There was no police report and no preliminary inquiry, and the questionnaire gave few details. It was also the only account of the event.

The phenomena had been very brief. The witness was driving at night and looking through the window of a moving vehicle. The light was very low, at road level. These points led to the suggestion that it could have been a reflection of vehicle headlights, a street lamp or something similar.

GEIPAN judged the account to be weak and without any strange characteristics. No conclusion could be drawn, because information was lacking and an investigation was not possible. The case remained unexplained and was classified C, insufficient data.
