Haute-Garonne, Occitanie, France

Sighting on July 25, 2010 in Labastide-Saint-Sernin (Haute-Garonne, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty: it was a sky lantern (class A).

What happened

At around 1:30 in the morning, two people at home saw a large number of flying objects crossing the sky. According to their accounts, the objects were triangular or round, and two-coloured. They flew over the house in a straight line, and no sound was heard during the sighting.

Checks with the town hall of the witnesses' village showed that festivities had taken place in the commune during the night of 24 to 25 July. The highlight was a release of Thai lanterns, at the time the witnesses gave. Other people who had phoned the town hall gave the same time. GEIPAN concluded that the witnesses had seen Thai lanterns drifting past, and classed the case as A (identified).
