Sighting in Lacanau, August 12, 1994

Gironde, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France

Sighting on August 12, 1994 in Lacanau (Gironde, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

The report reached the GEIPAN in 2008 and concerned an observation made more than fourteen years earlier. At around 11:45 pm, a group of people was walking away from a seaside village. The person at the front suddenly noticed a motionless black mass directly above them. For about six seconds, they made out a very large triangular shape, two sides of which were edged with small lights that varied in intensity and were not evenly aligned.

Two children in the group also saw the triangle. In complete silence, the object turned on itself, then moved off toward the south-east until it disappeared over the horizon. The witness recorded the event in a sketchbook and attached an illustration of what they had seen to their account.

No other testimony was collected, and with so much time elapsed, no investigation was possible. The GEIPAN concluded that a dark triangular shape had passed over, and classified the case C because of insufficient data.
