Sighting in Lahas, January 20, 2010

Gers, Occitanie, France

Sighting on January 20, 2010 in Lahas (Gers, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At around 10:30 p.m., a witness standing at their front door saw a light moving rapidly. It travelled from east to west, and the witness heard no particular noise while it passed.

The questionnaire the witness completed was too brief to allow an investigation. GEIPAN followed up several times, asking the witness to make a statement to the gendarmerie so that a preliminary inquiry could be opened, but no further information came in. The case showed no particular degree of strangeness; a distant twinkling light was suggested, as a question rather than a conclusion. With a single witness and a brief questionnaire, the case had low consistency. Because there was too little information, and in particular no way to check air traffic, the investigation could not be completed, and the case was classified C, for insufficient data.
