Sighting in Les Avenières, August 3, 2014

Isère, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France

Sighting on August 3, 2014 in Les Avenières (Isère, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty: it was the International Space Station (ISS) (class A).

What happened

At around 10:30 p.m., a witness noticed a white point of light in the night sky. It moved silently from the southwest toward the northeast, at roughly the speed of an aircraft. Only one account was collected.

GEIPAN noted that a very bright point crossing the sky eastward within a few minutes, less than two hours after sunset, strongly suggests a pass of the International Space Station (ISS). The Calsky website supported this: the ISS flew over the witness's area from 10:36 to 10:45 p.m., from southwest to northeast. Since the witness did not mention the ISS in addition to what they had seen, GEIPAN classified the case as A: an observation of the International Space Station.
