Sighting in Lézignan-la-Cèbe, September 14, 2013

Hérault, Occitanie, France

Sighting on September 14, 2013 in Lézignan-la-Cèbe (Hérault, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty: it was a light from the ground (searchlight, laser, vehicle…) (class A).

What happened

Between 11:45 pm and midnight, two witnesses were puzzled by successive displays of white luminous circles moving about in the sky. They heard no noise at any point during the observations. The phenomenon appeared toward the south.

The investigation compared the witnesses' description to a "sky tracer", a light projection system used at festive events and in nightclubs. A nightclub in Pézenas confirmed that it had used one of these systems that evening, as an exception, for a special event. The weather record for Montpellier also showed a cloudy sky that night, which suits the striking effects of this kind of system. GEIPAN classified the case as A: the observation was definitely a light show of the "sky tracer" type.
