Sighting in Lorraine Aout, August 27, 1997

France

Sighting on August 27, 1997 in Lorraine Aout (France). GEIPAN considers the phenomenon probably identified (class B).

What happened

At around 4:45 a.m., several people in different départements of Lorraine saw a luminous phenomenon race across the sky. It looked like a green ball followed by a yellow-orange trail. It passed without any sound and lasted only two to three seconds.

After examining the case, GEIPAN found that the features reported in these accounts were consistent with an atmospheric re-entry, which it retained as the probable explanation. The case was therefore classified B, probably identified.
