Saône-et-Loire, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, France

Sighting on January 14, 1997 in Louhans (Saône-et-Loire, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty (class A).

What happened

At around 5 p.m., a witness who was out jogging said they had come across an ovoid-shaped being topped with a triangular head. When the witness approached, the being reportedly ran off, dropping a soft, reddish object. The witness picked it up and put it in their pocket, where it supposedly hardened.

The witness later presented the object, by then like a stone, as an "extraterrestrial fetus".

The investigation quickly showed that the story had been fabricated. GEIPAN classified the case as A and concluded it was a hoax.
