Sighting in Lourdes, September 5, 1981

Hautes-Pyrénées, Occitanie, France

Sighting on September 5, 1981 in Lourdes (Hautes-Pyrénées, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

On 5 and 6 September 1981, the gendarmerie brigade in Lourdes took statements from several people who had noticed luminous objects in the sky. According to these accounts, the objects moved very fast at low altitude and made no sound.

Each sighting lasted only about five seconds. That was too brief to provide enough information to put forward any hypothesis about what had been seen. GEIPAN classified the case as C, insufficient data, and recorded it simply as the observation of rapidly moving objects.
