Sighting in Ourouer-les-Bourdelins, November 20, 2011

Cher, Centre-Val de Loire, France

Sighting on November 20, 2011 in Ourouer-les-Bourdelins (Cher, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At 3:20 p.m., a witness saw a white, spherical object moving quickly across a clear sky. To the witness, it looked as if it was "rushing at an airliner". They watched it until it disappeared at the horizon two to three minutes later. No other witness came forward.

The radar tracks requested from air traffic control showed, among other things, only the airliners the witness had mentioned. Investigators checked whether the witness could have seen a bright Iridium satellite flash, which is sometimes visible in daylight, but no such event occurred at that location that afternoon. No other explanation that commonly leads to misidentification fitted the observation.

GEIPAN classified the case as C. The strangeness and consistency of the case were low, since nothing was reported about the path the object followed, and with no independent testimony or cross-checking, no other conclusion was possible.
