Sighting in Lus-la-Croix-Haute, August 30, 1979

Drôme, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France

Sighting on August 30, 1979 in Lus-la-Croix-Haute (Drôme, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty (class A).

What happened

A farmer went into a rye field and noticed a burnt circular patch on the ground, about 10.5 metres across. Inside the circle, the grass was a deeper green than in the neighbouring meadow.

Around 20 September, the same witness went back and found that pink meadow mushrooms had sprouted both inside and outside the circle. The same thing had already been seen in other meadows in the area.

GEIPAN concluded that this was a ring of mushrooms roughly 11 metres in diameter, a natural mark on the ground. The case was therefore classified A, meaning fully identified.
