Sighting in Mâcon, December 26, 2008

Saône-et-Loire, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, France

Sighting on December 26, 2008 in Mâcon (Saône-et-Loire, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably an aircraft (plane, helicopter…) (class B).

What happened

Two people were travelling on the A6 motorway, one driving and the other as a passenger. They noticed a luminous phenomenon in the sky that stayed in place, about 30° above the horizon. It vanished suddenly, leaving no trace. A second luminous phenomenon of the same kind then appeared, and both witnesses were surprised each time.

The GEIPAN considered the case to be of low strangeness but fairly precise. It classified it as B: the sightings were probably reflections of the sun on aircraft flying at high altitude.
