Sighting in Mèze, March 11, 2010
Hérault, Occitanie, France
Sighting on March 11, 2010 in Mèze (Hérault, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).
What happened
A driver was travelling along the Étang de Thau between 10:45 and 11:00 pm when two round lights passed overhead. The witness then made out a large cigar-shaped mass moving quickly and without any noise at an altitude of about 100 metres. The witness also said they had previously seen various impressive phenomena.
The gendarmerie collected no other testimony. GEIPAN rated the level of strangeness as low, since the two lights were not moving especially fast. As the account came from a single witness, it could not be corroborated by other evidence, and because the witness was unavailable, the exact location of the phenomenon could not be established. The investigation therefore could neither confirm nor rule out a possible interpretation. The case remained unexplained and not very consistent, and was classified C because of insufficient data.
