Sighting in Mézens, June 20, 2011

Tarn, Occitanie, France

Sighting on June 20, 2011 in Mézens (Tarn, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably an aircraft (plane, helicopter…) (class B).

What happened

At around 11 p.m., two people were in a field when a silent, yellow-orange ball of light passed over their heads. The object then turned just above the treetops, and the witnesses made out a triangular shape. Badly frightened, they left the spot. One of them had nonetheless filmed the sighting.

The video shows an object consistent with an aircraft, displaying the regulation night lighting and with its landing lights on. GEIPAN therefore concluded that the witnesses had probably seen an aircraft pass over, hence the B classification. No investigation was carried out to determine which aircraft had flown over the site.
