Drôme, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France

Sighting on July 8, 1978 in Montélimar (Drôme, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At around 11:40 p.m., a witness saw an elongated flying object pass overhead, travelling from north to south. By the witness's own estimate, it was flying at between 1,000 and 2,000 metres in altitude. It was made up of four red balls that gave off no glow. The witness heard no sound during the observation, which was brief.

No other witness accounts were collected for this case. Because information was lacking, GEIPAN classified it as C (insufficient data) and went no further than concluding that a flying object had passed by.
