Sighting in Montgras, November 20, 2011

Haute-Garonne, Occitanie, France

Sighting on November 20, 2011 in Montgras (Haute-Garonne, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably the star Sirius (class B).

What happened

Around 4 a.m., a child spending the night in a municipal hall with other scouts noticed a multicoloured point of light through a window. The point moved slowly and then stopped. The child heard no particular sound during the observation, which lasted about twenty minutes.

An investigator appointed by GEIPAN went to the site to check the sighting directions. The direction the witness indicated matched the position of Sirius, a very bright star. The description did not correspond exactly to the look of a fixed star, but the investigation found this discrepancy unsurprising: the child, aged 9, had been woken in the middle of sleep and was in an unfamiliar place. GEIPAN classified the case as B, a probable sighting of Sirius.
