Sighting on August 31, 1979 in Montpellier (Hérault, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

Around 9:15 pm, several people noticed three glows in the sky. The first, orange in color, stayed visible for about fifteen minutes. Two other glows, silvery in color, then appeared, moved quickly, and vanished all at once.

The witnesses decided to leave the city. Around 11 pm the glows appeared again, and they watched them for about an hour through binoculars. The phenomenon disappeared completely at around 12:15 am.

No other report of this phenomenon was recorded. GEIPAN concluded that several glows had been observed in the sky and classified the case as C, because there was not enough information to propose an explanation.
