Sighting in Nyons, June 19, 2007

Drôme, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France

Sighting on June 19, 2007 in Nyons (Drôme, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty: it was the International Space Station (ISS) (class A).

What happened

From their balcony, the witness noticed a very bright phenomenon crossing the sky from north to south at around 10:10 pm, without making any sound. A second object, clearly much larger, followed close behind it. Both moved at a steady speed and disappeared behind a hill on a descending path. No other witness account was collected about this sighting.

The GEIPAN investigation established that the International Space Station (ISS) had passed over that day and was visible from Nyons, together with the shuttle, which had just separated from it. The case was classified A: the witness had seen the ISS and the shuttle passing overhead.
