Sighting in Pellouailles-les-Vignes, September 7, 2014

Maine-et-Loire, Pays de la Loire, France

Sighting on September 7, 2014 in Pellouailles-les-Vignes (Maine-et-Loire, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a sky lantern (class B).

What happened

At around 1 a.m., the witness saw several orange-red lights. They moved slowly, each following its own path while climbing higher. After a few minutes, they went out.

GEIPAN considered that several orange-red lights drifting slowly for a few minutes, late on a weekend evening, strongly suggested Thai lanterns. The weather record showed very weak, unstable wind at that time. The local wind was therefore undetermined and subject to many varying influences. Such conditions can make objects carried by the wind move in an almost random way, following temporary local breezes. GEIPAN classified the case as B: probable observation of Thai lanterns.
