Sighting in Poisat, October 24, 2012

Isère, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France

Sighting on October 24, 2012 in Poisat (Isère, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At about 7:50 pm, a woman driving her car noticed a light moving quickly across the sky. She described it as a bright white light that descended and went out after a few seconds. The witness then made out a shape. The light gradually came back, this time rising, before disappearing for good behind the hill. No sound was heard. The sighting lasted 10 to 15 seconds, and the witness was at the wheel, looking through the windscreen.

Only one account was collected, and there were no photographs. The witness wanted to know whether anyone else had reported the phenomenon, so GEIPAN searched for similar reports from the same date and time in the Grenoble area, but found none. According to the investigation, the characteristics of the phenomenon fit poorly with an aircraft, a helicopter, a drone or a fireball, but a reflection in the windscreen could have produced the same scene. With no cross-checking, no other witnesses and no images, GEIPAN could not determine what the phenomenon was. The account is precise but brief, of average consistency, and the sighting is moderately strange. The case is classified C because of insufficient information.
