What happened

Between 5:40 and 7:20 a.m., a period of nearly an hour and forty minutes, a witness noticed a luminous, egg-shaped object moving at high altitude. It looked as though it was made up of two bright parts of unequal size, apparently connected to each other. The object travelled slowly from east to west. No other witness account was collected.

The GEIPAN investigation concluded that the witness had probably seen a stratospheric balloon and its flight train. The case was classified B, meaning probably identified.
