Sighting in Pontivy, December 6, 2024

Morbihan, Bretagne, France

Sighting on December 6, 2024 in Pontivy (Morbihan, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

One evening, a witness was looking at the sky from home when they noticed a stationary point of light. Shortly afterwards, four more similar light sources appeared. The objects suddenly began moving quickly, leaving light trails the witness described as "flammèches" (wisps of flame), and then vanished.

In a second sequence, the witness saw three points of light speeding across the sky, with a marked acceleration. Several white objects then appeared and carried out manoeuvres in which they grouped together and then scattered. The witness themselves suggested it might have been a flock of seagulls.

GEIPAN rated the case as moderately strange but of low consistency, since it rested on a single witness. Despite follow-up requests, in particular for any usable photos or videos that might have been taken with a smartphone, no further information was received, and the case could not be analysed. It is classified C: an unidentified phenomenon owing to insufficient data.
