What happened
At about 7:50 pm, from home, the witness saw a isosceles-triangle-shaped phenomenon to the southeast. Its entire underside was lit by lights of a uniform yellow colour. It was drifting slowly to the left and, from the witness's viewpoint, passed beneath power lines running in front of the house. The witness tried to photograph it but failed: the camera screen showed a sky-blue colour where the phenomenon should have been, a shade the witness had never seen on that camera. The camera was hiding the phenomenon completely at that moment. When the witness lowered it to look with the naked eye, the phenomenon had gone and the screen had returned to normal.
The witness reported the sighting to the GEIPAN two months later. A field investigation took place on 13 May 2023, and numerous exchanges then led to the loan of the camera, which underwent technical tests in late July 2023. CNOA data and the ADS-B.NL website showed no air traffic that could match, in the azimuth of the sighting. The testimony stayed precise and consistent from one exchange to the next. A drone, possibly a military one, was considered, but it fits poorly with the phenomenon's appearance and presence there. Allowing for the witness's overestimate of its apparent size, a drone of 50 cm to 1 m would have had to be 15 to 20 m away, which would have meant a prohibited overflight and audible noise, neither of which the investigation confirmed.
Several secondary items were explained or could not be linked to the phenomenon: a clock offset in the camera, present for at least 18 months, and twigs arranged in a triangle found on the ground, with no established connection. Tests managed to recreate a similar blue screen, but not under the conditions of the sighting; its appearance remains unexplained. The GEIPAN rated the testimony's consistency as medium and classified the case C, for lack of objectified data.
