Sighting in Loudéac, March 10, 2015

At 4:30 in the morning, the witness was riding a scooter along a small country road. Through the trees and above the fields, they saw lights that they first took for wind turbine lights. As they came closer, they made out for 4 to 5 seconds a black oval object carrying coloured lights that alternated between yellow, orange, green, blue and red. The object seemed to hover motionless above a cattle feeder. When the witness reached the end of the tree-lined lane, directly facing it, it vanished instantly. The witness noticed no noise, smoke or smell. They were the only person to report the sighting.

The investigation looked at several possibilities: wind turbines 2 km away, a drone (a practice found in the village), or a model aircraft (there is a club a few kilometres away). None of these could be retained. The amount of information is adequate, but the reliability of the account is low. Six weeks earlier, members of the witness's family had described a very similar object in the same commune: the same black oval, the same colours, the same dimensions, and extremely similar drawings. That earlier case was attributed to a neighbour's drone fitted with multicoloured LEDs. Here, a drone runs up against the closeness, the large apparent size and the instant disappearance. Contamination from the family's earlier account, or even a hoax, cannot be ruled out. No explanation is available, but the consistency is too weak to call the case unexplained, so GEIPAN classified it C, for lack of reliable information.
