Sighting in Pornichet, April 23, 2008
Loire-Atlantique, Pays de la Loire, France
Sighting on April 23, 2008 in Pornichet (Loire-Atlantique, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a reflection or photographic artefact (class B).
What happened
While looking through photos they had taken from the edge of a beach at around 4:15 p.m., the witness noticed spots they could not account for. No one had seen anything at the time to back them up, which always makes this kind of analysis difficult.
The investigation concluded that the mark on the first photo was very probably a bird that had flown quickly through the camera's field of view: the body and wings can be clearly made out. The second photo was less clear, but by analogy the same explanation seemed highly likely. After the case was published on the website, a new witness contacted GEIPAN. Thanks to that message, the object in the second photo was clearly identified as a frisbee, which can also be seen in a thrower's hands in the first photo once it had been updated.
The case therefore involves two different objects: a probable bird in the first photo and a frisbee in the second. GEIPAN kept it in class B because of the probable bird in the first photo.
