Sighting in Privas, September 24, 1990

Ardèche, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France

Sighting on September 24, 1990 in Privas (Ardèche, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty (class A).

What happened

At about 10:15 p.m., five witnesses noticed three luminous balls in the sky. They were a yellowish white and had blurred edges, as though seen through clouds, and the witnesses were puzzled by what they were looking at.

A sixth witness, who lived in a neighbouring locality, provided the explanation: the lights were the reflection on the clouds of three large floodlights set on the ground. GEIPAN accepted this explanation and classified the case as A, meaning identified: the luminous balls were light reflected off the cloud cover.
