France
Sighting on November 24, 1990 in (reg) Pays de la Loire (France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty: it was a light from the ground (searchlight, laser, vehicle…) (class A).
What happened
In two regions, the Pays de la Loire and Brittany, several witnesses noticed about ten luminous balls moving across the sky at high speed one evening in November 1990.
The investigation established that the lights came from laser rigs set up by EDF for the celebrations marking the twentieth anniversary of the Cordemais thermal power plant, in Loire-Atlantique. The lasers could be seen from as far as 40 km away. The case was classified A (identified): the fast-moving lights that were seen were laser spots.
