Sighting in Renage, November 15, 2019

Isère, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France

Sighting on November 15, 2019 in Renage (Isère, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably an identified cause of another kind (class B).

What happened

Around midnight, while a snowstorm was affecting the area, a witness saw several pink flashes from home and filmed them. They were the only person to give an account. When the witness replayed the video in slow motion, they noticed that the light moved from left to right during the flashes, which in the questionnaire made them think of an ultra-fast object. The video shows the phenomenon twice, and GEIPAN considered the case fairly solid.

An ENEDIS technician, used to working in the field, was consulted. Given the weather, the technician suggested the flashes came from an electrical installation or power line during an attempt to restore the grid. Because there was no information on the location or nature of any repair work, this explanation could not be formally confirmed. The case was therefore classed B: probable observation of several flashes from an electrical installation and/or power line.
