Sighting in Rouen, January 25, 1980

Seine-Maritime, Normandie, France

Sighting on January 25, 1980 in Rouen (Seine-Maritime, France). GEIPAN considers the phenomenon probably identified (class B).

What happened

At around 10 p.m., a witness noticed two points of light in the sky that were brighter than the stars. Gendarmes called to the scene saw them as well. As the evening went on, the two points slowly climbed higher in the sky. On the following days, they could be seen again whenever the sky was clear.

The GEIPAN classified the case as B (probably identified): the observation was most likely of celestial bodies. This conclusion rests on the slow rise of the two points during the evening and on their presence on later days under clear skies.
