Sighting in Rumilly, April 25, 2009

Haute-Savoie, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France

Sighting on April 25, 2009 in Rumilly (Haute-Savoie, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty: it was the International Space Station (ISS) (class A).

What happened

At 5:10 in the morning, a witness saw a very bright ball cross the sky without making any sound. It moved in a straight line from the southwest to the northeast, at a fast and steady speed. The witness tried to photograph it, but the pictures could not be used.

The investigation compared the sighting with the station's orbital bulletins (Space-track). This check showed beyond doubt that the witness had seen a pass of the International Space Station (ISS). GEIPAN therefore classified the case as A, meaning identified.
