Sighting in Saint-Avertin, May 30, 2009

Indre-et-Loire, Centre-Val de Loire, France

Sighting on May 30, 2009 in Saint-Avertin (Indre-et-Loire, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At around 2:50 in the morning, a witness was on their terrace when a fast, silent object passed by. It consisted of three orange points of light arranged in an equilateral triangle. The witness could make out a fainter orange halo between the points. The sighting lasted about 3 seconds, and the object followed a straight path. No other witness account was collected.

The investigation considered the case only slightly strange, given its very short duration and the straight trajectory. The testimony itself, however, was found to be very consistent: the witness is an experienced observer, precise when able to be (for example on direction and wind speed) and who refrains from answering when unable to be. The account shares several features with fireball reports, though not enough to say it was one. The BOAM database provided no confirmation. For lack of other independent testimony and cross-checking, GEIPAN classified the case as C, insufficient data.
