Sighting in Saint-Denis, March 27, 1976

La Réunion, France

Sighting on March 27, 1976 in Saint-Denis (La Réunion, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

Between 6:30 and 6:55 a.m., a member of the military driving a vehicle suffered a sudden breakdown, and every warning light on the dashboard went out. The witness's attention was then drawn to a patch of greyish fog with a metallic sheen, located toward the river, some fifteen to twenty metres from the vehicle.

The witness put their head out of the window to follow the phenomenon with their eyes. It rose and vanished at high speed above the buildings, heading south-southwest. Very surprised, the witness then saw that the dashboard was lit up again and restarted the engine easily to drive on.

No other testimony was collected about this phenomenon. Because of the lack of sufficient information, the GEIPAN classified the case as C (insufficient data); its conclusion describes the observation of a phenomenon in the form of a patch of fog.
