Sighting in Saint-Donat-sur-l'Herbasse, February 7, 2008

Drôme, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France

Sighting on February 7, 2008 in Saint-Donat-sur-l'Herbasse (Drôme, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At around 7:10 pm, a witness saw what they described as a spacecraft showing a red and white light in the sky. At the same moment, a huge fireball fell to the right of this object, on a downward path. The whole sighting lasted about 12 seconds. No other witness account was collected.

The investigation rated the case as moderately strange but of low consistency: a single witness, a brief account, contradictions and a short observation. It concluded that the sighting probably combined a bolide (fireball) with, at the same time, a possible aircraft. The aircraft hypothesis could not be checked, because the report reached GEIPAN after too long a delay. The file was too incomplete to allow identification and was classified C, for lack of sufficient data.
